Before moving to Morgan Orchards, Pat and Lydia lived in Williamstown, Vt. in a 3-story home with four sets of stairs. The strain of maintaining such a large home was tiring on the couple and they came to accept the fact that they were aging and needed to start considering critical decisions while they were both still able to do so. And after experiencing the effects of Alzheimer’s disease on her parents’ lives, Pat remembered her father’s words: “he said his biggest regret was not moving into a place like independent living when he’d been able to.”
So the couple gave a great deal of thought to how they wanted to approach their later years. One thing they did know was that they didn’t want to move far away, not with most of their social networks and clubs located in the Randolph area. They came to Morgan Orchards for a tour and fell in love with our location, view, and our beautiful, spacious apartments. They also loved the fact that being part of this community offered them the freedom to travel and not worry about their home, because everything would be taken care of while they’re gone.
They moved into an apartment with a den, high ceilings, and a beautiful western facing view of the mountains. After moving in they both quickly made friends and it didn’t take long for the place to feel like home.
“We wanted a place where we could be ourselves,” said Lydia, “and we found it here.”
Today, Pat uses the gym regularly while Lydia enjoys water aerobics at nearby Vermont Technical College. They’ve also had a number of friends come to visit and play games in the Game Room. Pat even ventures out for some snowshoeing in the winter.
Of making the move to Morgan Orchards the couple said, “It was easier than we thought it would be. The other residents are so friendly and social here and respect our privacy. The staff here is very welcoming and helpful, the views are wonderful, and the food is fabulous.” And now that they’ve settled the pair is enjoying their free time relaxing and letting their lives “smooth out.”
