Menig Nursing Home at Morgan Orchards Senior Living Community in Randolph Center has earned an overall Five-Star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
CMS posts their findings on their Medicare Care Compare website, which was created “to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which they may want to ask questions.”
Nursing homes that earn 5-Stars, like Menig, are considered to have above-average quality. The rating consists of the overall rating as well as separate ratings for three other areas:
- Health inspections: which reviews the previous three health inspections,
- Staffing: which looks at how many hours of care each resident receives on average based on their level of need and the number of nurses on staff,
- Quality measures: which assesses 15 different physical and clinical measures to determine how well a nursing home is caring for their residents.
In 2020, the Menig team focused their attention on infection control and their work was noted in their survey as the facility had no deficiencies in regards to infection control measures. A result brought about by the staff coming together to create a very conscientious approach to meet the challenges brought on by COVID-19 restrictions while also ensuring the quality of care remained consistent. An approach that has so far keep the coronavirus out of the facility.
“I attribute our success to our nursing staff. They really pulled together and even moved forward in certain quality measures during this difficult time. I’m really proud of them and how they came together to not just keep our residents safe but also worked toward providing improved quality of care,” said Ursula Margazano, executive director of Gifford Retirement Community. “And we can’t forget their families, and our residents and their families, who’ve been super supportive and patient with all the additional measures we had to put in place this past year to keep everyone safe.”
Menig has a long history of award-winning care, from state recognition for nursing home quality to employment. It’s even been named a Best Nursing Home in the country by U.S. News and World Report multiple times as well as been honored among their Top 39 Best Nursing Homes list.
Owned by Gifford Retirement Community, Menig opened in 1999 as a 20-bed facility that was attached to Gifford’s hospital in Randolph. It expanded to 30-beds in 2006 and in 2015 relocated to its current location in Randolph Center, becoming the anchor of the 30-acre Morgan Orchards Senior Living Community campus. Today, the nursing home is joined by Strode Independent Living, which has 49-apartments for those 65 and older.
