Summer has officially arrived, our first here at Morgan Orchards, and the warmer weather has allowed us to get outside to start the process of bringing our outdoor spaces to life.
Walking Trail and Pond
Residents are now able to stroll down a walking trail to the pond. While the trail may be a grassy mowed path right now, we’re working with our residents to design the permanent trail system, which we hope to have completed by fall.
Gardens
Garden season is in full swing and our residents have been busy getting our new gardens up and running. Our first garden area was planted last fall, an in-ground garlic bed, which is growing healthily. And this summer we’ve added two additional green spaces.
On the north side of the building, we’ve recently completed a 25×50 foot garden in which two of our green-thumbed residents have planted an array of vegetables, including tomatoes, peppers, carrots, lettuce, radishes, and beets, which we can’t wait to enjoy come harvest time.
We’ve also installed six raised garden boxes along our patio area. These have been filled mostly with flowers, like pansies and nasturtiums, but two have been planted with an array of delicious herbs including dill, chive, oregano, thyme, basil, mint, cilantro, parsley, and rosemary. While we’ve yet to harvest any herbs, we hope to do so throughout the summer as we plan on sharing them with the residents and with our chefs for use in our evening meals.
We encourage you to stop by for a tour to explore these wonderful new spaces!
