Jane moved to Morgan Orchards from Cape Cod and the home she and her husband had shared for 23 years. After he passed, she realized she didn’t want to live alone. With her companion gone, she found eating alone was simply too difficult for her.
She began researching independent living communities in Massachusetts but found they were too expensive. Originally she had wanted to stay near her two children in Massachusetts, but her son in Waitsfield suggested she visit Morgan Orchards. A friend of his is a resident here and when her son visited and toured the building he himself fell in the love with the place. So Jane, along with her children from Massachusetts came for dinner and a tour of their own. By the time dinner was over she’d decided this was the place for her. She fell for the western mountain views and our bright and airy apartments.
Though she admits leaving her son and daughter in Massachusetts and settling into her new home was tough, she’s now enjoying seeing her granddaughter and great-granddaughter that live here in Vermont. She’s also getting involved with activities, such as using the treadmill in the Fitness Room, joining the Garden Group, and tending to the raised garden boxes.
“What I like best about being here is that everyone is so gracious and helpful. It’s been so easy to make friends,” she said, noting that she no longer has to eat her dinners alone. “The other residents have made my meals an enjoyable time again.”
